Pros and Cons of a Wrought Iron Fence

If you're planning on putting in a fence, you may have noticed that there are many, many options. There are half a dozen pros and cons to each material from cedar to aluminumvinyl to chain link fences. Today, we'll be discussing the pros and cons of wrought iron fences; these fences are sometimes called rod, rot, raw, and cast iron, and are among the most popular of fences today.
Pros
Wrought iron fences have been used for centuries and often bring to mind gothic architecture and elite mansions. Wrought iron is timeless and classic, serving to provide security while beautifying the property. Additionally, wrought iron can be molded or cast into different patterns and shapes, giving you flexibility when it comes to the finer details of your fence.

A second pro is durability. Because wrought iron is made from, well, iron, it's incredibly difficult to break. It's far stronger than other popular fencing materials like wood or vinyl, which gives it a much better reputation as a security fence. And, as long as the iron is sealed or painted and maintained properly, the iron itself is protected from the elements so it will not corrode. Once you have a wrought iron fence, it won't need to be replaced for a very, very long time.

Cons
Wrought iron is a sturdy, high-quality material, which also places it on the pricier end of fencing materials. Especially if you choose to customize your fence, the costs can add up. Wrought iron is certainly more expensive than its less durable counterparts.

In addition to being expensive, a wrought iron fence does not provide much privacy. If your reasoning for wanting a fence includes wanting increased privacy, wrought iron may not be the material for you.

Building a fence is often the last stage of finalizing your property and is an exciting time! If you have wrought iron on your list of possible materials, we hope that this list of pros and cons has been helpful to you.
